Barrie Cassileth, Ph.D., is Chief of Integrative Medicine Service at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. From 1979 to 1991, she taught Medical Sociology at University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and served as the Director of Psychosocial Programs. During that time, she developed hospice, home care and counseling programs. Dr. Cassileth wrote The Alternative Medicine Handbook (1998) and edited Caring for the Cancer Patient at Home (1987). She has held several positions at National Institute of Health, serving on the Advisory Council, Office of Alternative Medicine and the Editorial Review Board. She served on a congressional advisory panel on Unconventional Cancer Treatments from 1987 to 1991. She is currently a member of the National Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society.
